Electricity Carbon Pricing in Nova Scotia

Published by Marie Morden on October 26, 2016

Climate change is of major concern to all. CME and the manufacturing sector it represents, believe we all have an important role to play. CME has identified the efforts Nova Scotia is doing to support GHG reduction, and achieve the proposed Federal GHG goals.

The below Electricity Carbon Pricing in Nova Scotia policy paper has found Nova Scotia electricity consumers are already paying a significant price for reducing carbon through a system of Performance Standards and hard caps on GHG emissions. The Paper also finds the Nova Scotia approach is working by achieving the best GHG reduction results in Canada. It notes that the electricity sector in Canada has very wide differences that mean one-size fits all national prices will not lead to fair and equitable results, and will not necessarily be effective in achieving additional GHG reductions.
